Using Prismacolor pencils as my primary tool, I embarked on a journey to capture every nuance of this beloved breed. The spaniel’s coat, adorned with a symphony of grey and brown tones, presented a challenge and an opportunity to explore the interplay of light and shadow, texture and depth.
The choice of surface was crucial in achieving the desired effect. Opting for Stonehenge Pearl Grey paper provided the perfect backdrop, enhancing the vibrancy of the colours while lending a tactile quality to the finished piece. Each stroke of the pencil became a dance between precision and intuition, building layer upon layer to mimic the softness of fur and the gentle curve of the spaniel’s form.
