This portrait features a black French Bulldog, captured in a relaxed, front‑facing pose with its paws gently tucked out in front. I wanted this black French Bulldog coloured pencil portrait to emphasise the calm, attentive expression and the rich variations in the dark coat. French Bulldogs have wonderfully subtle shifts in tone across their faces, and building those layers on white paper really helped the highlights and textures come through.
The pose, looking directly forward while lying down, created a lovely sense of closeness and personality—perfect for a French Bulldog front‑on portrait without overlapping subjects or style with my other Frenchie artwork.

For this black French Bulldog portrait, I worked on smooth white paper, which allowed the darker tones to build cleanly and gradually. I mapped the main shapes and then deepened the coat using controlled layering to achieve the soft shine and subtle cool undertones that define realistic black French Bulldog art.
The paws positioned slightly forward gave me room to introduce soft shadows and grounding elements while keeping the attention on the face. I focused on the delicate texture around the muzzle, the gentle highlights on the ears, and the contrast in the darker areas that bring this custom black French Bulldog artwork to life.
