This artwork is a Beagle portrait created to showcase the breed’s warm colouring, soft brown ears, and classic markings. Beagles have a wonderfully expressive coat pattern, and I wanted this Beagle dog drawing to highlight the smooth transitions and gentle textures that define the breed.
Using Stonehenge paper as the base, I combined Derwent Lightfast pencils with Prismacolours to build rich layers of tone and detail. The combination allowed me to bring out the natural sheen and softness typical of a realistic Beagle art piece while maintaining fine control over the short fur.
This portrait fits beautifully within my collection of Beagle pet portrait work and celebrates the charm of this well‑loved breed.

For this portrait, I used the materials I rely on most often in my coloured pencil work. Stonehenge paper provided the ideal surface for fine layering and controlled detail. I built up the core tones and textures using my primary pencil sets, allowing for depth, softness, and natural colour transitions throughout the Beagle’s coat.
These materials help create the smooth blends, warm browns, and lifelike fur texture that define my approach to Beagle pet portraits and other breed‑specific artworks.
