Materials I Used
As an artist, there is something profoundly rewarding about capturing the essence of a beloved pet on paper. Recently, I had the pleasure of creating a greyhound drawing that has become one of my favourite pieces. Using Prismacolor pencils with acrylic highlights on Stonehenge coloured paper, I aimed to bring out the unique grace and loving expression that greyhounds are known for.
Greyhounds have always fascinated me with their sleek, elegant bodies and gentle demeanour. When I was commissioned to create this greyhound drawing, I knew I wanted to capture not just the physical likeness of the dog, but also the spirit and personality that make greyhounds such beloved pets. The loving expression in the eyes of this particular greyhound was something I was determined to highlight, as it truly encapsulates the bond between the dog and its owner.
Working with Prismacolor pencils allowed me to achieve a rich, vibrant colour palette that brought the greyhound to life. These pencils are known for their smooth application and excellent blending capabilities, which were essential in capturing the subtle variations in the greyhound’s coat. The use of acrylic highlights added a touch of realism, giving the fur a lifelike sheen and making the eyes sparkle with emotion.
Stonehenge coloured paper provided the perfect backdrop for this greyhound drawing. Why I Love Drawing Dog Portraits
