I created this refined Arabian horse portrait in coloured pencil on a warm neutral ground to celebrate the breed’s elegant head and calm, intelligent eye. Layer by layer, I built the soft, silvery greys and subtle dapples, then glazed cooler tones through the muzzle and shadow planes to keep the form lifelike. The lilac halter adds a gentle pop of colour and helps frame the horse’s profile without distracting from the delicate bone structure and fine coat texture.
This piece reflects my approach to equine work: quiet realism, careful edge control, and plenty of time spent getting the expression just right. If you’d like a similar portrait of your own horse—either in show tack or at liberty—I offer custom commissions in coloured pencil or mixed media, sized to suit your wall and budget. Framing and UK shipping available.
