This piece features a Golden Retriever, brought to life through the dog’s signature flowing curls and warm, sunlit tones. I wanted this Golden Retriever coloured pencil portrait to really celebrate the movement and softness of the coat — from the gentle waves around the shoulder to the brighter highlights catching the edges of the fur.
Golden Retrievers have such expressive, textured coats, and this angle allowed me to focus entirely on the richness, depth, and natural warmth of their colouring. The toned paper helped create a soft, glowing finish that suits the breed perfectly.

For this Golden Retriever portrait, I worked on softly toned paper that allowed the warm curls and lighter highlights to stand out beautifully. I began by mapping the direction of the fur, focusing on the flowing movement that gives Golden Retrievers their signature look.
Layering the golden tones slowly helped build depth and warmth throughout the coat. Subtle blending, gentle pressure changes, and careful tonal shifts allowed the curls to feel soft and full of life. Each wave was developed gradually, creating a true sense of movement in this Golden Retriever coloured pencil artwork.
