German Shorthaired Pointer Portrait on Kraft Stonehenge Paper

This hand-drawn coloured pencil portrait captures the striking markings and alert expression of a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer named Buddy. Created on kraft-coloured Stonehenge paper, the warm natural tone of the surface provides the perfect mid-tone foundation, allowing the highlights and rich dark markings to stand out beautifully.

To achieve the fine details of the coat, eyes, and distinctive liver spots, I used a combination of professional-grade coloured pencils including Prismacolor Premier, Derwent Lightfast, and Caran d’Ache pencils. By carefully layering colours and building texture strand by strand, I was able to recreate the unique character, soft fur, and gentle gaze that make this breed so recognisable.

The contrast between the bright white fur and deep chocolate markings made this portrait particularly enjoyable to create, while the kraft background adds warmth and depth without distracting from the subject.
