Hello, I’m Robert Shirt, and I have a deep passion for drawing dogs in colour. Recently, I completed a Doberman portrait, and I’d love to share my process and the joy I find in capturing the essence of these wonderful animals.
My Love for Drawing Dogs
Drawing dogs has always been a source of immense satisfaction for me. There’s something incredibly rewarding about bringing out the unique personality and spirit of each dog through my art. I particularly enjoy working with coloured pencils, as they allow me to create vibrant, lifelike portraits that truly capture the depth and emotion in a dog’s eyes.
In my latest piece, I focused on a Doberman portrait. This breed is known for its sleek, powerful appearance and intelligent, expressive eyes. My goal was to capture not just the physical likeness but also the depth and intensity of the Doberman’s gaze. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and in this Doberman portrait, I aimed to reflect the loyalty and alertness that are so characteristic of this breed.
Using Prismacolor pencils allowed me to blend colours seamlessly and create a smooth, realistic texture for the Doberman’s fur. The white paper provided a perfect backdrop, enhancing the vibrancy of the colours and the fine details of the drawing.
Bringing Dogs to Life
Every dog I draw is a new adventure, a chance to explore the unique features and personalities that make each one special. Whether it’s the soulful eyes of a Labrador or the playful expression of a Beagle, I strive to bring each dog’s character to life on paper. My Doberman portrait is a testament to this passion, showcasing the breed’s elegance and strength.
