Materials I Used
I’m excited to share one of my latest pieces, a detailed black Labrador drawing. This artwork holds a special place in my portfolio, showcasing the smooth, light laydown I achieved using my trusted Prismacolor Premier Coloured Pencils. The Labrador’s short coat allowed me to highlight the natural shine and texture with lighter colours, creating a lifelike and vibrant representation.
Working on the black Labrador drawing was a delightful challenge. The short hair made it easier to capture the subtle shine and smooth texture. Using Prismacolor pencils, I layered light and dark shades to bring out the depth and dimension of the fur. The soft, thick cores of these pencils were perfect for blending and shading, allowing me to achieve a seamless transition between colours.
For this black Labrador drawing, I chose Stonehenge Pearl Grey Paper. The smooth texture of the paper complemented the Prismacolor pencils beautifully, allowing for even colour laydown and multiple layers without any risk of tearing. The grey tone of the paper added a unique backdrop, enhancing the contrast and making the Labrador’s coat stand out even more.
