Australian Border Collie Acrylic Portrait

This custom acrylic pet portrait captures the bright expression and distinctive features of a beautiful Australian Border Collie. Painted using Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylic Paints, the artwork focuses on creating a realistic likeness while preserving the unique personality and character of this much-loved companion.

The rich, warm background complements the dog’s chocolate coat and golden eyes, helping to draw attention to the face and expression. Multiple layers of acrylic paint were used to build depth, texture and colour variation throughout the fur, while fine brushwork was employed to create individual hairs and subtle highlights.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this commission was capturing the dog’s engaging gaze and cheerful expression. The warm earth tones and carefully blended transitions help create a lifelike appearance, while the detailed eyes serve as the focal point of the portrait.

Working in acrylics allowed me to gradually refine the painting, developing realistic fur textures and building contrast to bring the subject to life. Every stage of the process was carefully considered to ensure the finished portrait reflected both the appearance and personality of this special dog.

Alongside the finished artwork, a timelapse video of the painting process is included below, allowing you to see how the portrait evolved from the initial layers through to the completed piece.
