The Art of a Chestnut Horse Drawing

Materials I Used

Creating art is a journey, and my latest piece, a chestnut horse drawing, is a testament to the beauty found in simplicity and detail. Using Prismacolor pencils on Stonehenge white paper, I aimed to capture the essence of this magnificent creature.

The Process

The focus of this drawing is the horse’s head and shoulders, a choice that emphasizes the animal’s noble features. The lighting on the face plays a crucial role, highlighting the contours and bringing the horse to life. The soft shadows and highlights create a sense of depth and realism, making the horse’s expression almost palpable.

Materials and Technique

Using Prismacolor pencils allowed me to achieve a rich, vibrant chestnut colour that stands out beautifully against the Stonehenge white paper. The smooth texture of the paper complements the pencils, enabling fine details and subtle gradients that enhance the overall effect.

Adding Depth with Head Gear

One of the unique aspects of this drawing is the inclusion of the horse’s head gear. This element adds an extra layer of depth and interest to the piece, drawing the viewer’s eye and providing context to the horse’s character and story.

Simplicity in Focus

By choosing to focus solely on the head and shoulders, I aimed to strip away any distractions and let the viewer connect directly with the horse’s gaze. This simplicity not only highlights the horse’s beauty but also allows the intricate details of the drawing to shine.
